Pennsylvania's Premiere Thursday Night Cross-Country Series
In 2018, we added a 5k-ish event to our cyclocross series, Fifth Stree Cross. The run is two laps of the cyclocross course, and we alternate the run direction each week. Our sponsor, Keystone Running Store, times the event, and we score the event for a series championship for men and women, just like we do for the cyclocross race.
In 2023, the event more than doubled in size to average 40 runners per night. Nearly 50% of all participants are women, and 80% of the participants are there for a fun workout in a fun environment. On Halloween and our series finale night, we had over 60 runners! We attribute this growth to pure word-of-mouth recommendations; we put no advertising dollars into this project. We do use photography and social media with it, but otherwise, all growth is from genuine interest.
